Flood Relief Donation

The Rotary Club of Alexandra Headland recently received a generous donation for flood relief by Mrs. Judith Roach, on behalf of her late husband’s estate.  After visiting our club and discussing potential recipients with our members, Mrs Roach supported our recommendation that we focus our joint support in the Lockyer Valley area.  This part of the Darling Downs region was devastated in January 2011, and the damage to infrastructure, dwellings, employment, and the livelihoods of the residents is very hard to visualise.  It will obviously take a long time and a vast amount of money to tackle the reconstruction let alone the social dislocation.

Our mission now is to pursue the possibility of purchasing a small vehicle for use by a worthy community support group in the Lockyer Valley Area, such as home nursing, aged care services, or youth support work.  We are advised that there is very positive interaction between the Regional Council and Rotary and other genuine relief agencies, so we have sought the assistance of the local Rotary Club of Gatton and Lockyer Valley to assist us.  They in turn are working in close cooperation with the Lockyer Valley regional Council and the District Flood Appeal.  Together, we hope to identify an opportunity to provide tangible assistance in the near future and make an immediate difference to at least some of the victims of this natural disaster.
